When it was first found it was very expensive and only a few selected stores had the facility and were used more for presentations and similar purposes. But with the advancement of technology this too advanced and become cheaper and efficient. As a result it started spreading very fast. Establishments earlier had lesser resources so could to get more customers started displaying these advertisements and got more customers as more info was available also it was more appealing to the customer.

The purpose of such displays are many, mainly it is used for advertising purposes. It is used at various places to sponsor the product such as at homes and commercial places. The main idea is to enchant people and make them buy the product which the advertisers are selling; this is one of the most effective ways of advertising and can be considered to make maximum profit from this. It is better than the traditional bill boards. It is less static and can provide more info about the product to the consumer.

It can be also used for public announcements and instructions, example in airport it is used to guide the passengers to their proper flight and tell them about time and more information as if the plane is on time or late. One other use is in stock exchange market where the prices are fluctuating so fast that the people have to continuously know the updates price there it can be very useful tool.

At many places it is used merely as a display to show off, it can be used as a communication tool to the masses. Public messages and general information can be displayed on it. It can help people to navigate and showing some suggestions. Now days there are wide variety of digital signage promoting movies and albums also.
